Cole Porter’s High Society to tour the UK

A new production of Cole Porter’s High Society is set to tour the UK in 2013 with its opening performances at Venue Cymru in Llandudno from 29 January to 2 February 2013 (previews from 24 January).

Adapted from the hit 1956 film, High Society features songs including “True Love”, “You’re Sensational” and “Did You Evah!”. The original film starred Bing Crosby (Dexter Haven), Frank Sinatra (Mike Connor) and Grace Kelly (Tracy Lord).

Wealthy socialite Tracy Lord is in the midst of planning a lavish summer wedding when her ex-husband Dexter Haven turns up to disrupt the proceedings in an attempt to win her back. A further twist arrives in the form of the charming reporter Mike Connor who falls instantly for Tracy, and she for him. As the day of the wedding draws closer, the audience is left guessing which groom the bride will choose.

The production stars Michael Praed (The Murder Game, The Sound of Music) as Dexter Haven and the cast also includes Daniel Boys (Avenue Q, Peter Pan) as Mike Connor, Sophie Bould as Tracy Lord, Keiron Crook as George Kittredge, Carolyn Pickles as Margaret Lord and Alex Young as Liz Imbrie. Further casting to be announced.

The show is directed by Anna Linstrum, with set and costume designed by Francis O’ Connor, lighting designed by Chris Davey, sound designed by Ben Harrison and musical direction by Michael Haslam.

Executive producer John Stalker said: “High Society is an excellent title for our second production. It is a beautiful musical that is remembered fondly from the 1956 film and from previous touring and West End productions. We are excited to have been invited to create this major revival and I know that Anna Linstrum and our exquisite creative team will give us a production destined to be extremely popular with audiences the length and breadth of the country.”

High Society is also touring to Dublin, Plymouth, Wolverhampton, Edinburgh, Cardiff, Canterbury, Newcastle, Bradford, Northampton, Cheltenham, Southampton, Birmingham, Southend, Belfast, Nottingham, Sheffield, High Wycombe and Guildford, with further tour dates to be announced.
