WOS Radio: Warren & Co Show Their Cool Hands at Q&A
Last night (5 October 2011) over 80 theatregoers made their way to the Aldwych Theatre for the world premiere of Cool Hand Luke, the American crime drama, which was famously adapted into a 1967 film starring Paul Newman, and has now been adapted for the stage by Emma Reeves and stars Marc Warren.
Focusing on Luke Jackson (Warren) a decorated World War II veteran, Cool Hand Luketells the story of a man who refuses to conform eating 50 eggs in an hour just to win a bet. An inspiration to his fellow inmates and a threat to his superiors he frequently tries to escape prison and the chain gangs but always plays a cool hand.
Following the performance we were joined by almost the whole company as well as adaptor Reeves. Answering a range of questions from the audience Warren declined to let us in on the secret of the egg eating but was happy to talk about his love of the film, although he hasn’t watched it since being cast in the role. The most lively debate however came from the use of song in the piece and the heightening, our distracting power of song in any production.
