Photos: Mike Leigh’s Grief Premieres at NT Cottesloe

Mike Leigh‘s new play, which as Whatsonstage.com first broke earlier this month is titled Grief, receives its world premiere at the NT Cottesloe tonight (21 September, previews from 14 September 2011).

Devised collaboratively in Leigh’s trademark style, the show’s company includes his frequent collaborator Lesley Manville as well as Marion Bailey, Sam Kelly and Wendy Nottingham who he has worked with on feature films. The cast also includes Ruby Bentall, Dorothy Duffy and David Horovitch.

Set in the domesticity of a 1950’s middle-class household, the play focuses on Dorothy (Manville), a war widow who lives with her brother Edwin (Kelly) and teenage daughter Victoria (Bentall). The National have remained tight lipped about the show’s content, with no further details released about its plot, even as previews began last week. All that will change as the critics are invited to the NT Cottesloe this evening.

The National Theatre has recently released production shots for Mike Leigh‘s Grief.

The play continues in rep at the NT Cottesloe until 28 January 2012 with short breaks to tour to Bath and Cambridge.
