Cast: Mackichan Joins Greig Jumpy, Fit & Proper People, Full Playboy
Doon Mackichan will join Whatsonstage.com Award winner Tamsin Greig in cast of April de Angelis‘ Jumpy which opens at the Royal Court on 19 October (previews from 13 October) and runs until 19 November 2011.
Greig won this year’s Whatsonstage.com Award for Best Supporting Actress for The Little Dog Laughed, in the West End last year. Her other stage credits include Much Ado About Nothing (which won her an Olivier and a Critics’ Circle Award), Gethsemane and God of Carnage, while her many screen credits include Black Books, Green Wing, Love Soup, Emma and Tamara Drewe.
Jumpy, which is directed by Nina Raine, is billed as a “frank and funny family drama questioning parental anxieties and life after fifty.”
The full cast for the production has also been announced as Seline Hizli (BBC’s The Land Girls), Richard Lintern (As You Desire Me at the Playhouse), James Musgrave (Wanderlust at the Royal Court), Bel Powley (Arcadia on Broadway), Ewan Stewart (Much Ado About Nothing for Shakespeare’s Globe), Sarah Woodward (The Cherry Orchard at the National) and newcomer Michael Marcus.
Jumpy is designed by Lizzie Clachan with lighting by Peter Mumford and sound by Paul Arditti.
Full casting has been announced for Steve Marmion‘s RSC co-production, Fit and Proper People which kicks off his second season in charge at the Soho Theatre from 12 October (previews from 7 October) to 5 November 2011.
The cast for the production have been announced as Zahra Ahmadi, Mark Anthony Brighton, Kerron Darby, Russell Floyd, Steven Hartley, Katy Stephens and David Yip.
A new play by Georgia Fitch, the play is set in the world of Championship football and will see the Soho transformed into a football stadium complete with real turf, floodlights and the buzz of constant media coverage.
Zahra Ahmadi is perhaps best known for playing Shabnam Masood in BBC’s Eastenders, her other credits include the 2010 film Tamara Drewe and Sisters at Sheffield Crucible.
Mark Anthony Brighton best known for his television roles in Holby City, Silent Witness and The Bill. Kerron Darby‘s theatre credits include The Knowledge and Little Platoons, both at the Bush Theatre.
Russell Floyd‘s recent stage credits include Sir Courtly Nice for the RSC, Going To A Party at the National and as a regular on ITV’s The Bill and BBC’s Eastenders.
Steven Hartley has recently been seen appearing on ITV’s Vera and BBC’s Merlin, his theatre credits include playing Bill Sykes in Oliver! at the Theatre Royal Drury Lane and Dirty Dancing at the Aldwych.
Katy Stephens was part of the Royal Shakespeare Company Ensemble. Her 2009 to 2011 credits include As You Like It, The Grain Store, King Lear, Antony and Cleopatra and the RSC New Work Season at Hampstead Theatre. David Yip‘s theatre credits include Turandot for the Hampstead Theatre and King Lear for Yellow Earth and the RSC.
Georgia Fitch is a writer in residence at the Bush Theatre. Her other plays include Dirty Dirty Princess (NT Connections) I like Mine with a Kiss (Bush), Adrenalin…Heart (Bush and Tokyo International Theatre Festival) and Arrivals (Old Red Lion).
Fit and Proper People has design by Tom Piper, lighting design by Ben Ormerod, sound design by Gregory Clarke, video design by Douglas O’Connell and choreography by Spencer Soloman.
The full company has been announced for the Old Vic’s production of The Playboy of the Western World which opens on 27 September (previews from 17 September 2011) starring Ruth Negga, Niamh Cusack and young Irish actor Robert Sheehan making his professional stage debut.
John Crowley directs the production of JM Synge‘s 1907 play set in a County Mayo pub at the beginning of the century. The play tells the story of lonely dreamer Christy Mahon (Sheehan) who takes refuge in Michael Flaherty’s inn, claiming that he has killed his oppressive father. He both charms the village women including Widow Quinn (Cusack), and captures the heart of the landlord’s fiery daughter Pegeen (Negga).

Finally in casting news, the full cast has been announced for Paul Hart‘s Watermill Theatre production of Great Expectations, adapted from the Dickens by Neil Bartlett.
The production, which falls 150 years after the final episode of the serialisation was published, opens on 3 October (previews from 29 September 2011) and runs until 5 November 2011.
The cast has been announced as Jed Aukin (Mr Pumblechook, Sarah Pocket, Bentley Drummle), Emma Beattie (Mrs Joe, Biddy, Wemmick), Stephen Finegold (Magwich), Edward Hancock (Pip), Mabel Jones (Estella) Russell Layton (Joe Gargery, Mr Jaggers), Thomas Padden (Pocket, Compeyson, Wopsle) and Kazia Pelka (Miss Havisham).
