Photos: McKellen & Wilson Relish NYT Latest

Theatrical luminaries including Ian McKellen and Richard Wilson attended the gala night of the National Youth Theatre’s latest production Relish at Tramshed in Shoreditch last night (14 September 2010).

The show, which is written by James Graham (The Whiskey Taster, Tory Boyz), tells the story of Victorian ‘celebrity chef’ Alexis Soyer and his rise from the backstreets of Paris to the salons of the British elite. With a cast of characters including a foul-mouthed Florence Nightingale, and chefs cooking live onstage, it sets out to “prove that celebrity chefs are nothing new”.

Relish is performed by 60 National Youth Theatre (NYT) members, and directed
by Paul Roseby, Artistic Director of NYT, with music from the award winning composer
and musician Philip Sheppard. It’s performed in Tramshed, a ‘found’ space in Shoreditch, a short walk from the site of one of Alexis Soyer’s original soup kitchens for the poor.
