Here’s to Harry: Have You Worked at the Shaftesbury???

The West End premiere of Flashdance isn’t the only occasion being marked at the Shaftesbury Theatre in October. Next month also marks 30 years of service from the theatre’s much-loved stage door keeper Harry Gabriel, who first joined the staff in 1980 for They’re Playing Our Song starring Tom Conti and Gemma Craven. He’s manned the stage door ever since, on duty through the runs of myriad notable productions include Two into One, Follies, M Butterfly, Kiss of the Spiderwoman, Carousel, Tommy, Rent, Thoroughly Modern Mille and Hairspray.

To honour Gabriel’s long and loyal service, the theatre management is hosting a special event for the preview of Flashdance next Monday 4 October 2010, when they’re inviting all past casts, creatives and other staff who’ve worked with Harry to attend the show and a private post-performance party to “celebrate Harry’s achievements in the company of the many good friends he has made over the years”. For “Harry’s Night – celebrating 30 dedicated years”, top-price tickets and after show event are priced at £28.50 and are available direct from the box office on 020 7370 5399. If you’re a Shaftesbury alum, do spread the word.
