YouTuber Hits Edinburgh Comedy Award Shortlist

The nominations have been announced today (25 August) for the 2010 Edinburgh Comedy Awards, with American YouTube sensation Bo Burnham amongst those in the running and a strong showing for female stand-ups. Formerly the Perriers, and briefly the if.comeddies, the Awards, now sponsored by Foster’s beer, are celebrating their 30th anniversary this year.

Awards producer Nica Burns said the “two fantastic 30th anniversary shortlists” reflect the “enormous changes in the comedy landscape. For the first time two first-class female comics, Josie Long and Sarah Millican, both Best Newcomer winners, join 20-year-old Bo Burnham in an outstanding Edinburgh debut, Greg Davies from We Are Klang in his first solo show and Russell Kane winning his third consecutive nomination.”

She continued: “It took a very impassioned, intense debate to select the nominees from an extremely strong and diverse longlist. 2010 will be remembered as a vintage year for comedy.”
