Daddy Cool set for UK tour with Jane McDonald & Sheila Ferguson

Following its recent European tour, disco musical Daddy Cool will return to the UK for its first national tour, starring Loose Women presenter Jane McDonald as Ma Baker and Three Degrees singer Sheila Ferguson as Pearl.

The tour will open in Northampton on 9 October 2012 before visiting Bradford, Wolverhampton, Oxford, Bromley, Eastbourne, Wimbledon and Sunderland (full dates below).

Daddy Cool features the hits of Boney M – as well as other Frank Farian artists such as Milli Vanilli and No Mercy – reinterpreted with contemporary influences and set alongside a modern London story loosely based on Romeo and Juliet.

Songs from the 70s and 80s include “Rivers of Babylon”, “Brown Girl in the Ring”, “Ma Baker”, “Can’t Stand the Rain”, “ Mary’s Boychild” and the title number.

The musical – which has a book by Amani Naphtali and Stephen Plaice – premiered in September 2006 at the West End’s Shaftesbury Theatre starring Javine and So Solid Crew’s Harvey, but closed early in February 2007.

The “all-new light, sound and dance-driven production” will visit: Derngate Theatre, Northampton (15-20 October), Alhambra Theatre, Bradford (15-20 October), Grand Theatre, Wolverhampton (20-27 October), New Theatre, Oxford (29 October-3 November), Churchill Theatre, Bromley (5-10 November), Devonshire Park Theatre, Eastbourne (19-24 November), New Wimbledon Theatre (26 November-1 December) and Empire Theatre, Sunderland (3-8 December).
