Propeller Revisits Hampstead Next Summer with Winter

Shakespeare will feature again on the summer menu at Hampstead Theatre. Hampstead artistic director Edward Hall staged the bard at the north London new writing house, which he took over running in January 2010, for the first time last month with transfers of his sell-out, all-male Propeller productions of The Comedy of Errors and Richard III.

Today, Hall has announced his 2011-2012 Propeller season – new productions of Henry V and The Winter’s Tale, that will launch a UK-wide tour from Guildford’s Yvonne Arnaud Theatre on 9 November 2011 and culminate with a summer season at Hampstead from 4 to 21 July 2012. Tickets for Propeller at Hampstead will go on sales in February 2012.

Following Guildford and prior to London, the Propeller productions will tour to Guildford (Henry V only), Brighton (Henry V only), Milton Keynes (Henry V only), Cheltenham, Sheffield (The Winter’s Tale only), Canterbury, Newbury, Newcastle, Coventry, Norwich and Plymouth, with an international visit to Girona’s Festival Temporada Alta sandwiched in in December.

Both Shakespeares are directed by Edward Hall and designed by Michael Pavelka, with lighting by Ben Ormerod. Hall, the son of the Royal Shakespeare Company founder Sir Peter Hall, established Propeller in 1997. He continues to run the all-male ensemble since also taking over as artistic director of London’s Hampstead Theatre last year.
