Nunn\’s Night Music Posts Notices at Garrick, 25 Jul

Trevor Nunn‘s Menier Chocolate Factory revival of Stephen Sondheim’s A Little Night Music has posted closing notices at the Garrick Theatre. It had been booking until 5 September 2009, but will now finish on 25 July, its original closing date prior to its recent extension (See News, 22 May 2009).

The acclaimed production, which marks director Nunn’s Sondheim debut, opened at the Chocolate Factory last year (3 December 2008, previews from 22 November), where it enjoyed a sell-out run to 8 March 2009. It transferred to the Garrick later that month (28 March), replete with its cast led by Hannah Waddingham, Alexander Hanson, Maureen Lipman, I’d Do Anything contestant Jessie Buckley, Gabriel Vick, Kelly Price and Kaisa Hammarlund (See News, 17 Feb 2009).

Inspired by Ingmar Bergman’s 1955 Swedish film and written largely in waltz time, A Little Night Music concerns the tangled romantic lives of four couples in Sweden at the turn of the 20th century. The score includes the Grammy Award-winning ballad “Send in the Clowns”.

A Little Night Music has musical supervision by Caroline Humphris, set and costume design by David Farley, orchestrations by Jason Carr, with lighting by Hartley T A Kemp and sound by Gareth Owen. It’s produced in the West End by David Babani for Chocolate Factory Productions, Andrew Fell and Nica Burns and Max Weitzenhoffer for Nimax Theatres.

No further productions have yet been announced for the Garrick.
