Edinburgh Countdown Begins, Win a Fringe Trip
Whatsonstage.com is heading to Edinburgh! It’s less than a month to go until the world’s largest arts festival, and we’re getting ready on our dedicated festival microsite – www.whatsonstage.com/edinburgh2009.
This year’s 63rd annual Edinburgh Fringe runs from 7 to 31 August and involves some 18,901 performers from over 60 countries giving 34,265 performances of a record-breaking 2,098 shows in 265 venues. It’s followed, from 14 August to 6 September, by the Edinburgh International Festival.
Key members of the core Whatsonstage.com team – chief critic Michael Coveney, editorial director Terri Paddock and deputy editor Theo Bosanquet – will all be attending this year’s festival, blogging, twittering and reporting throughout on Whatsonstage.com/edinburgh2009. They’ll be working alongside our year-round Scotland correspondent Joseph Pike, a large squad of freelance reviewers and a bevy of specially selected theatre practitioner bloggers.
Ahead of that, our countdown coverage on Whatsonstage.com/edinburgh2009 begins in earnest from this week with our editors’ picks, surviving the Fringe advice and a series of “My Edinburgh” interviews with key festival figures and venue heads, launching with Assembly Rooms founder William Burdett-Coutts.
