1st Night Photos: Olé! Forsyth Flamencos at Zorro

Gipsy Kings band members and brothers Andre and Canut Reyes had first nighters – including Strictly Come Dancing host Bruce Forsyth and his Puerto Rican wife, and former Miss World, Wilnelia Merced – dancing inside and outside the Garrick Theatre at the West End opening of Zorro last night (15 July 2008, previews from 2 July).

The band has provided the music – including their hits “Bamboleo”, “Baila Me” and “Djobi Djoba” – for the flamenco musical, which arrives at the Garrick, where it’s currently booking until 10 January 2009, following a regional tour. And after the show, the Reyeses performed live themselves at the opening night party, held at Floridita in Soho.

Leading the 30-strong cast of Zorro, Matt Rawle reprises his performance in the title role and Lesli Margherita plays Inez, alongside new West End company members Emma Williams as Luisa and Adam Levy as the villainous Ramon. The musical is based on the 2005 bestseller by Chilean novelist Isabel Allende about Don Diego de la Vega, a fictional wealthy caballero who defends the people of Spanish California against injustice.
