Cast: Vanessa Kirby in Three Sisters & Matthew Lewis joins Our Boys
Vanessa Kirby, who starred as Estella in the recent BBC
adaptation of Great Expectations, is to play Masha
in Three Sisters at the Young Vic.
adaptation of Chekhov’s 1900 drama, returning to the Young Vic
following The Return of Ulysses in 2011. The play
runs from 8 September to 13 October in the theatre’s main house.

Kirby’s recent stage roles include Isabella Women Beware
Women at the National Theatre, Dana in The Acid
Test at the Royal Court and Rosalind in As You
Like It at the West Yorkshire Playhouse. She makes her
Young Vic debut in the production.
Joining her in the roles of Olga and Irina respectively will be
Mariah
Gale and Gala Gordon. Gale played Ophelia to David Tennant‘s
Hamlet and Juliet in Rupert Goold‘s 2010
production of Romeo and Juliet, both at the RSC.
She returns to the Young Vic following her appearance in Vernon
God Little in 2011. Gordon graduates from Guildhall School
of Speech and Drama this summer; Three Sisters is
her professional debut.
Matthew
Lewis, best known
for playing Neville Longbottom in the Harry Potter film series, will
make his West End debut this autumn when he joins Cian
Barry, Arthur
Darvill and
Laurence Fox
in the cast of Our
Boys. The show opens
at the Duchess
Theatre on 3 October
(previews from 26
September). Lewis will play the role of Mick.
Written by Jonathan Lewis, Our
Boys won the Best New Play award in the 1993 Writers’
Guild Fringe Awards. This production, the play’s first staging in the West End, will be directed
by David Grindley. Grindley’s theatre credits include the Tony
award winning Journey’s End
(Comedy/Broadway), A Midsummer Night’s Dream
(Stratford, Ontario), and The Philanthropist
(Broadway).
Lewis
recently played Jamie in Kay Mellor’s series The
Syndicate,
receiving a TV Choice Award nomination for best actor. On stage he
was last seen in the national tour of Agatha Christie’s
Verdict.
The
design team – Jonathan
Fensom,
Jason
Taylor
and Gregory
Clarke –
have all worked with David Grindley on a number of West End
productions including Journey’s
End, Abigail’s Party and
Six Degrees of Separation.
Our
Boys runs at the Duchess Theatre until 15 December.
