Terry Gilliam & Simon McBurney return to ENO for 2013-14 season
Monty Python star Gilliam will stage a production Berlioz’s Benvenuto Cellini in June 2014, following his sell-out production of The Damnation of Faust in 2011, while Complicite’s McBurney will helm Mozart’s The Magic Flute from 7 November 2013.
There will also be revivals of the company’s acclaimed 2009 production of Peter Grimes (from 29 January 2014) and Anthony Minghella’s award-winning staging of Madam Butterfly (from 14 October 2013).
And rising theatre star Joe Hill-Gibbins will mark his opera debut with a site-specific rendering of Thomas Adès’ Powder Her Face (from 2 April).
The 2013-14 season opens in September with a new production of
Beethoven’s Fidelio helmed by Spanish director Calixto Bieito.
ENO artistic director John Berry said: “This season shows the power of loyal artists – singers, conductors, directors, composers and designers – who are prepared to put themselves on the line in a remarkably diverse and exciting range of work.”
