Jamie Lloyd's production of Harold Pinter's The Hothouse opened at the Trafalgar Studios last night (9 May 2013).

The play, the second in Lloyd's Trafalgar Transformed season, stars Simon Russell Beale and John Simm, and is set on Christmas Day in a nameless state-run mental institution where the inmates are subjected to a tirade of mindless cruelty.

The rest of the cast includes John Heffernan, Harry Melling, Clive Rowe, Christopher Timothy and Indira Varma, and the production is designed by Soutra Gillmour. It runs at the Trafalgar Studios until 3 August.

Guests at the first night party, which was held at One Whitehall Place, included Beverley Knight, Jodie Prenger, Nigel Harman, David Bradley and recent Whatsonstage.com Award nominee Billie Piper, as well as some of the cast of Lloyd's recent production of Macbeth including Claire Foy and Forbes Masson.
