West End Stars Bring Curtain Down on Foie Gras???

Something of a contrast to recent protests against arts cuts, West End
stars Jenny Seagrove, Peter Egan, and Carley Stenson have joined
PETA in their latest attempt to put an end to the production of foie
gras and “bring the final curtain down on Fortnum and Mason”. With a
large banner in hand and signs resembling curtains, the actors headed to
Piccadilly yesterday (5 May 2011) to protest the luxury department
store’s refusal to stop selling foie gras, despite the UK having banned
its production. Seagrove, who recently starred opposite Martin Shaw in
The Country Girl
at the West End’s Apollo Theatre described the production of the
pâté as a “shockingly cruel process.” Seagrove also
said she intends to boycott the store and encourage her colleagues to
do the same. Danielle Lineker (recently seen in the UK tour of Calendar Girls), Ruthie Henshall, Roger Moore and Steven Berkoff have also added their voices to the campaign.
