Simon Russell Beale And Kathy Burke Head To Donmar

In addition to the already announced production of Schiller’s Mary Stuart that Phyllida Lloyd will direct Janet McTeer and Harriet Walter in at the Donmar Warehouse from 14 July to 3 September (see News, 4 February, 2005), the Donmar’s autumn season also promises new productions of plays by Christopher Hampton, Ibsen and Sam Shepard.

Simon Russell Beale will kick off in September in a revival of Christopher Hampton’s 1970 play The Philanthropist, fresh from completing the current tour of Deborah Warner’s production of Julius Caesar (in which he plays Cassius). In October, actress-turned-director Kathy Burke – whose Oxford Stage Company of The Quare Fellow has just returned to the Tricycle for a season – will stage Sam Shepard’s God of Hell. The season will also include a new production of Ibsen’s The Wild Duck, staged by Donmar Warehouse artistic director Michael Grandage.

Further details of the Donmar season will be announced on Tuesday (May 31) – check back for more then. Note: only Mary Stuart is currently booking.
