Michael Grandage's second production in his glittering West End season, Peter and Alice, opened at the Noel Coward Theatre last night.

John Logan's play, telling of the time when the original Alice in Wonderland, Alice Liddell Hargreaves, came face to face with the original Peter Pan, Peter Llewelyn Davies, at the opening of a Lewis Carroll exhibition in 1932.

Starring Judi Dench and Ben Whishaw, it runs at the Noel Coward Theatre until 1 June.

Guests at the first night party, which was held at the National Gallery cafe, included Charles Dance, Penelope Wilton, Tom Hiddleston, Dominic West, Una Stubbs, Felicity Kendal, Harriet Walter, Sting, Ruth Wilson, Eddie Redmayne, Simon Russell Beale, Indhu Rubasingham, Richard E Grant and Dench's daughter Finty Williams.
