1st Night Photos: Mitchell & Jones have close shave with Sweeney

The cast and crew of Sweeney Todd, led by Michael Ball as the Demon Barber of Fleet Street and Imelda Staunton as Mrs Lovett, were joined by guests including Tom Jones, Rosemarie Ford, Robert Lindsay, Jim Broadbent, Anton Stephans, Leanne Jones, Con O’Neill, Richard and Chloe Madeley and David Mitchell for their opening at the West End’s Adelphi Theatre last night (20 March, previews from 10 March 2012).

The production, which is helmed by Jonathan Kent, also stars Lucy May Barker as Johanna, Peter Polycarpou as Beadle Bamford, John Bowe as Judge Turpin, Luke Brady as Anthony, Gillian Kirkpatrick as the Beggar Woman, Robert Burt as Pirelli and James McConville as Tobias.

The Chichester Festival Theatre production transfers to the Adelphi following a Whatsonstage.com Award-winning run in Chichester in 2011 which earned the show the Best Regional Production gong at this year’s Awards. Sweeney Todd is booking for a limited season until 22 September 2012.
