Old Vic’s Norman Conquers Broadway???

Following its acclaimed run at the Old Vic last year, Matthew Warchus’ production of Alan Ayckbourn’s trilogy The Norman Conquests is set for a Broadway transfer.

The revival enjoyed a sell-out run at the Old Vic from 6 October to 20 December 2008 (previews from 11 September), with the 200-year old venue being specially reconfigured in-the-round to house it (See News, 20 May 2008). It will transfer to Broadway’s Circle in the Square theatre, where it opens on 23 April (previews from 7 April), and will run for 16 weeks.

The trilogy is played out in three different areas of the house – Table Manners in the dining room, Living Together in the living room and Round and Round the Garden in the garden – with the action of each occurring simultaneously. Believing it his mission in life to make women happy by showering them with love, Norman makes the most of every opportunity to seduce his sister-in-law Annie, charm his brother-in-law Reg’s wife Sarah and woo his wife Ruth during a disastrous weekend.

The production will transfer replete with its original cast – Amelia Bullmore (Ruth), Jessica Hynes (Annie), Stephen Mangan (Norman), Ben Miles (Tom), Paul Ritter (Reg) and Amanda Root (Sarah).
