Wicker Man Set for Stage Crossover???

The 1973 cult film, The Wicker Man, may be the next screen-to-stage adaptation to hit the West End after The Motion Group, under the artistic direction of Andrew Steggall, recently acquired the exclusive UK stage rights to the motion picture. Steggall, who will direct the stage production, and Robin Hardy, who directed the original film, are working on adapting the screenplay by Anthony Shaffer. Parts of the script will also be based on the novel Ritual by David Pinner, with the production being designed by Jon Bausor and musical supervision by Gary Carpenter, who was the original music director on the film.

In order to raise the necessary funds to see the production through its development stages and to attract other producers, The Motion Group are selling 400 “pieces” of The Wicker Man off at £100 each to anyone who wants to invest, making it – for some – a unique opportunity to invest in something a bit different. But with West End statistics showing that on average out of every ten West End productions, only one can be expected to return any profit, is this asking a lot of people unaware of the risks involved?
