Miss Hope Springs… Recovering Showgirl tells the tale of ex-Las Vegas showgirl Miss Hope Springs on her journey from The Ritz to the pits. The show opened last night (3 November 2010) at the Drill Hall where it continues until 6 November 2010, going on to a national tour.

A hit at this year’s Brighton Fringe, is the creation of composer and lyricist Ty Jeffries, son of late stage and screen legend Lionel Jeffries. Miss Hope Springs… Recovering Showgirl is Jeffries’ witty and touching new lounge-act style show in which Hope, former denizen of the Pink Pelican Casino, revisits her life and loves as she plays the piano and sings 12 new original bittersweet torch songs and show-stopping belters.

1. It’s is an original musical

Miss Hope Springs stars in an original musical comedy play in the form of a 1970’s lounge act, taking you on a glittering roller coaster ride through the life of ex Vegas showgirl, turned nightclub singer.

2. The show goes beyond drag

Ty Jeffries takes female impersonation ‘beyond drag’ and delivers an evening recalling Golden Age Hollywood where he grew up with a famous father Lionel Jeffries and his father’s friends including Diana Dors, Fred Astaire and Shirley MacLaine.

3. It’s full of original music, played by Jeffries himself

Glamourpuss Hope plays the piano and sings brand-new original heart-rending torch songs and catchy toe tapping show stoppers, which take inspiration from the work of Bacharach, Berlin, the Gershwins and Kander and Ebb.

4. Miss Hope Springs is the star you never knew you loved

This is classic entertainment with modern twist. Miss Springs gives a performance which is both hysterically funny and tear jerkingly touching, appealing to audience an audience of all ages. The was Judy, there was Barbara, there was Peggy… now there is Hope.

5. Its a moving story

A lady of a ‘certain age’, Hope Springs shares her poignant journey from The Ritz to the pits told through stories which you will replay in your memory long after you have left the theatre.

Miss Hope Springs… Recovering Showgirl plays the Drill Hall from 3 to 6 November 2010 before starting a national tour.
