Five Reasons to See … Bring it Home for Homelessness

A plethora of exciting female comedians are joining forces on Saturday (18 May 2013) for a big night of comedy at the Union Chapel to raise money for homeless women. Here, sketch group The Boom Jennies give us five good reasons to go…

1. Award-winning comedians
Some of the country’s most exciting stand-up, sketch and character comedians are on the stonking line-up: Roisin Conaty is a Fosters’ Newcomer Award Winner, a regular on Radio 4’s News Quiz, and a star of Have I Got News For You (BBC1); Cariad Lloyd is a Foster’s Best Newcomer Award nominee; Aisling Bea won the 2012 So You Think You’re Funny award. The bill is also host to Canadian stand-up Mae Martin, Game of Thrones star Gemma Whelan (HBO, Sky), Trodd en Bratt (C4, Radio 4), Holly Burn (C4, BBC 4), The Birthday Girls (BBC 3, Radio 4), Caroline Hardie and us, The Boom Jennies (Radio 4), amongst others.

2. Live Band

The night will be hosted by Alison Thea-Skot (BBC2) and her wonderful house band – we can promise improvised jingles, tunes and musical comedy magic. If you’re not on your feet dancing by the end of the night we’ll eat our hats.

3. An incredible venue

The stunning Union Chapel is a unique, award winning venue, with beautiful stained-glass windows, amazing acoustics and an incredible atmosphere. How many comedy gigs have you been to in a Gothic Revival-style church? Exactly.

4. It’s for charity

Proceeds from the night will go to the Union Chapel’s Margins Project and St Mungos’ Rebuilding Shattered Lives project, which focuses on supporting homeless women. One in ten rough sleepers in London are female, and 66% suffer mental health problems, yet they often don’t get the specialist support they need because many homeless services are designed to cater for the majority. We are hoping to raise as much money as possible for these brilliant charities. For more info about the great work they do see unionchapel.org.uk and rebuildingshatteredlives.org

5. It’s a one off!

This amazing line-up is for one night only! Never before have so many brilliantly funny ladies performed in such a beautiful venue, for such an excellent cause. It’s going to be an absolute belter: pull up a pew – you’d be silly to miss it.
