Greenwich Playhouse Announces Summer Season

Greenwich Playhouse, a theatre which specialises in reinterpreting classics, has recently announced its summer season. Following Wilde’s Ideal Husband which ends this weekend, Marsha Norman’s Pulitzer Prize winning play Night Mother will be playing at the venue until 20 June. The Greenwich Playhouse will then return to another classic when the award-winning Sell A Door Theatre Company brings its production of The Philanderer by George Bernard Shaw in July.

Following Sir Terry Pratchett’s controversial response to his recent diagnosis with Alzheimer’s disease which set out his rationale for choosing to die at a time and in a place of his own volition, Fragile Productions presents a timely revival of the play that confronts the issue of ultimate self determination.

Night Mother is a two-hander that focuses on the testing relationship between mother in daughter. And, in an act of life mirroring art, Greenwich Playhouse offers the rare opportunity to see an actual mother and daughter play these roles, bringing together Jayne Harvatt and her daughter Emily Connell as Thelma and Jessie Cates respectively. Night Mother opens at the Greenwich Playhouse 25 May.

Sell A Door Theatre Company, one of the UK’s leading fringe and regional theatre producer, return to the Greenwich Playhouse this summer wit their production of the much loved Bernard Shaw play, The Philanderer, produced by David Hutchinson and directed by Bart Williams. 

The play depicts characters which define adult immaturity as the Modern, enlightened, man-about-town Leonard Charteris desperately tries to marry the exotic forward-thinking Grace Tranfield, much to the dismay of his current girlfriend. The Philanderer plays at the Greenwich Playhouse from 20 July to 15 August.
