This year's Norfolk and Norwich Festival will feature a production of The Tempest staged at the Victorian purpose-built circus venue the Great Yarmouth Hippodrome. As part of the Shakespeare 400 celebrations, the artistic director of the festival William Galinsky will direct Shakespeare's final play.

Other highlights of the festival include a new show from Curious Directive called Spindrift which follows three sisters trying to make sense of what happened to their father who disappeared whilst sailing 20 years ago. The company's recent play Pioneer, an audaciously ambitious sci-fi piece, garnered strong reviews in Edinburgh and beyond. Spindrift promises 3D animation and video projection.

The festival also hosts interactive show Walk With Me set in Felbrigg Hall, which allows the audience to create their own soundscape and story as well as a UK premiere from Finnish circus cabaret troupe Race Horse Company. White Night is a fusion of cabaret and circus hosted by New York singer Sophia Urista.

The festival will feature several world premieres including Kemal Yusuf's choral commission Cain which explores the need to make anew. Rona Munro's hit trilogy The James Plays will also be performed across one weekend at the Norwich Theatre Royal.

The line up also features a series of music and literature events, and the Sun Ra Arkestra, The Analogues and Billy Bragg will all perform. There will also be a free outdoor programme of events, which showcases sound installations, circus, live music, dance and a scrap metal fire breathing dragon.

The Norfolk and Norwich Festival runs from 13 – 19 May.
