Visitors to the Sheringham Little Theatre will soon discover the Norfolk coastal venue has been given a completely new box office and café area. Work is currently underway to refurbish the foyer and visitor areas of the theatre, with a grand opening planned for Saturday, November 30.

Debbie Thompson, the theatre's director, says that the refurbishment will make access to the box office and café much easier and would allow more people to enjoy the space. “We were very lucky to receive a grant of £66,000 from the Norfolk County Council Community Construction Fund to improve the box office and café bar. This will see us move the box office and make it far more open and welcoming.

“At the same time we are moving the bar into the centre of the café, improving the flow for customers and to make it more efficient in terms of how food is served.” The refurbishment will allow up to 62 people to be seated and will create more cohesion between the theatre itself and the interval area.

It is the second phase of a major renovation programme at the Little Theatre. The first stage saw the refurbishment of the exterior of the building while the third phase – expected to take place in 2014 – will see the creation of a new education and youth space.

“We are really looking forward to the new look café and box office,” Thompson says. “Not only will the changes enhance the whole experience for theatre-goers but they will also be of great benefit to our fantastic army of volunteers who run the café for us.

“We will be holding a grand opening from 10am to 4pm on Saturday, November 30 and hope members of the public will come along to see the new areas for themselves and to meet members of our pantomime cast.”
