Principal cast announced for Teddy at Southwark Playhouse

Further casting, including the title role, has been announced for the world premiere of Teddy, a new show by Tristan Bernays and composer Dougal Irvine, at Southwark Playhouse.

Eleanor Rhode will direct Joseph Prowen (Jefferson's Garden, Watford Palace)) as Teddy and Jennifer Kirby (Pride and Prejudice, Open Air Theatre) as Josie in the production, which opens on 8 June 2015 (previews from 4 June), and runs until 27 June.

Billed as a "punchy lyrical ride through the dark and damaged world of 1950s London", the show fetures songs by Irvine perfromed by 50s heartthrob Johnny Valentine and his rock 'n' roll band The Broken Hearts.

Teddy and Josie are about to hit the streets of London for a good time. It's pissing it down, they're totally skint, and someone wants them dead – but a little trouble never stopped a Ted from having a good time. Desperate times call for rock 'n' roll.

Tristan Bernays's previous work includes Iron (Orange Tree Theatre), Iron Oxide (Southwark Playhouse), The Bread & The Beer (Soho Theatre) and Aftershocks (National Theatre Studio).

Dougal Irvine's credits as a bookwriter/lyricist/composer include Departure Lounge, In Touch, The Other School, Angry Birds and The Busker's Opera.

Teddy is produced by Snapdragon Productions and Theatre Bench.
