The Saatchi Gallery will be the location for a new, immersive performance entitled Inside Pussy Riot, based on the works and experiences of post-punk Russian arts collective Pussy Riot.

The feminist group's founder, Nadya Tolokonnikova, will work alongside Olivier Award-nominated theatre company Les Enfants Terribles to create a new piece of work to run within the gallery. Audience members are invited to put on a balaclava and explore the theatre space.

In 2012, Tolokonnikova was imprisoned for two years for performing 35 seconds of a protest song inside Moscow's Cathedral of Christ the Saviour.

She comments: "Inside Pussy Riot shows you what prison, prosecution of political activists and police oppression looks like. It also reminds you what democracy, on the contrary, looks like. And when I say 'democracy', I mean real democracy, which is about direct participation of citizens. Inside Pussy Riot plunges you into the totality of an authoritarian system – if you do not choose real democracy and participation, authoritarianism chooses you."

Inside Pussy Riot runs at the central London gallery show from Tuesday 14 November to Sunday 24 December.

The show will coincide with the Saatchi Gallery's Art Riot: Post Soviet Actionism exhibition, as well as the 100th anniversary of the Russian revolution.

Les Enfants Terribles have just wrapped their immersive performance of Alice's Adventures Underground at the Vaults in Waterloo.

Tickets go on sale on 27 September at 10am
