Gina Beck to star in musical adaptation of The Railway Children

The new adaptation will received its premiere with a concert reading in Guildford

A new musical adaptation of E Nesbit's classic novel, The Railway Children, will receive its premiere in a concert reading at the Guildford Summer Chamber Music Festival in September.

Gina Beck (Show Boat, Wicked) will play Bobbie alongside Deborah Crowe as Mother, David Birrell as Father, Edd Campbell Bird as Peter and Lauren Morris as Phyllis.

They are joined by Daniel Crossley as Mr Schpansky, Paul Baker as Mr Perks, Maggie Service as Mrs Perks, Jonathan Dudley as Jim, Jack Chissick as Old Gentleman and Jack McCann as Mr Connolly.

The new musical, which has music by Alex Parker, a book and lyrics by Katie Lam and orchestrations by Martin Higgins, will feature a twelve piece orchestra and takes place at Holy Trinity Church, Guildford on Friday 2 September.

The Railway Children follows Bobbie, Peter and Phyllis as they move from London to the countryside after their father mysteriously disappears.
