Eddie Eyre, Leo Staar and Siubhan Harrison to star in The Country Wife at Southwark Playhouse

Casting has been announced for Southwark Playhouse's adaptation of William Wycherley's The Country Wife.

Eddie Eyre, who recently left EastEnders and whose other credits include Game of Thrones and The Seagull, will play Harry Horner in the show. He will be joined by Leo Staar as Harcourt. Staar's recent appearances include Dark Matter, After the Dance and Hello/Goodbye.

Also cast is Siubhan Harrison as Alithea. Harrison returns to the venue following her performance in Working at the venue last year, and her other credits include Pitcairn and Earthquakes in London. It was also recently announced that she would be performing a song by Lin-Manuel Miranda, which featured in Working at the 18th Annual WhatsOnStage Awards Concert on Sunday.

The production's ensemble will also include by Nancy Sullivan (The Beggar's Opera), Daniel Cane (Spamalot), Mabel Clements (A Doll's House) and Joshua Hill (Pride). Further casting will be announced.

The piece is directed by Luke Fredericks, co-artistic director of theatre company Morphic Graffiti, who produce the show.

Wycherley's comedy, written in 1675, was for a number of centuries considered too rude to be performed on the stage. It follows three different storylines about couples and individuals, each engaging in amorous entanglements. This new adaptation will set the piece in London in the roaring 1920s, where gin and jazz were all the rage.

The Country Wife runs at Southwark Playhouse from 4 April to 21 April, with previews from 28 March.
