The upcoming encore NT Live screenings of the Donmar's WhatsOnStage Award-winning production of Coriolanus starring Tom Hiddleston will feature an innovative audio commentary.

Hiddleston and director Josie Rourke have recorded a commentary on the production that audiences will be able to download on their phones.

The commentary – which also features cast members Peter de Jersey, Deborah Findlay and Hadley Fraser – can then be listened to in tandem with the screenings on 24 September.

"In a flash of inspiration, it occurred to me it might be interesting to create an actor and director commentary to accompany the Coriolanus encore screening," said Rourke. "I thought it might add new dimension to this very new concept of taking stage to screen."

Hiddleston added: "At the time I was completely immersed in the character but now I'm a bit more detached I'm more able to reflect on what was going on at the time, and hopefully offer some insight into what it was like to play Coriolanus."

The commentary will be available as part of the production's digital programme, which will be available to download through iTunes for £2.99 in advance of the broadcast.
