Following her recent comments that the next Doctor Who should be a woman, actress Billie Piper has thrown a couple of names into the hat for who she would like to see.

Talking at the 17th Annual WhatsOnStage Awards last night, Piper said "I think someone like Helena Bonham Carter would be amazing.

"Or you could go for someone a bit more showy, someone like Emma Stone, she's certainly got the chops. But she's off winning Oscars, so she's in good shape."

Piper picked up the Best Actress in a Play Award for her performance in Yerma at the Young Vic, her second WhatsOnStage Award in three years, following her win in the same category for Richard Bean's Great Britain at the National Theatre in 2015.

Harry Potter and the Cursed Child was the big winner of the night, taking home eight awards in nine categories including Best New Play, Best Actor and Actress in a Play.

Half a Sixpence was the most successful musical of the night, winning Best Actor in a Musical for Charlie Stemp, Best Supporting Actress in a Musical for Emma Williams and Best Choreography.

Cameron Mackintosh was recognised with a special award, the Equity Award for Lifetime Achievement (So Far).
