Sampled Returns To Sadler’s Wells

The Sadler’s Wells “taster menu” of dance styles returns in January with an international line-up of ballet dancers, b-boys, salsa divas and contemporary dance companies.

Artists taking part in the weekend event include first soloists from Birmingham Royal Ballet performing pas de deux from The Sleeping Beauty and Romeo and Juliet prior to the company’s performance of Beauty in April at the London Coliseum.

As a preview to the month-long run at the Peacock Theatre in February, the Cuban dancers from Havana Rakatan perform a mix of salsa, mambo, cha-cha-cha and rumba accompanied by live son music. Also appearing is Sadler’s Wells associate artist Jasmin Vardimon who returns to London following a world tour with excerpts from a new work expected in November 2010. Finally, French crew Phase T preview their much-anticipated return to Sadler’s Wells’ annual hip hop festival, Breakin’ Convention 2010 in May.

“Sampled is at the heart of Sadler’s Wells’ mission to present the full spectrum of national and international dance to the widest possible audience,” says chief executive and artistic director of Sadler’s Wells Alistair Spalding. “At a time when dance has an increasing presence in mainstream culture we are delighted to be able to give a taster of the diversity that the art form offers.”
