Dominic Rowan, Kate Duchêne, Angus Wright, Gawn Grainger and Paul Hilton will lead the cast of Katie Mitchell's production of The Cherry Orchard, which runs at the Young Vic from 16 October to 29 November (previews from 16 October).
Chekhov's classic will be performed in a new English language version by Olivier Award-winning playwright Simon Stephens, who previously adapted Ibsen's A Doll's House for the Young Vic. Dominic Rowan, who starred in that production, will play Alexander Lopakhin in The Cherry Orchard.
Katie Mitchell has previously directed Chekhov's Uncle Vanya for the Young Vic, and Three Sisters, Ivanov and The Seagull at the National Theatre.
Kate Duchêne plays Lyubov Ranevskaya in The Cherry Orchard. Her past work for Mitchell includes Hansel and Gretel, A Woman Killed With Kindness, Beauty and the Beast, Women of Troy, Attempts on Her Life, Waves, Iphigenia at Aulis.
Angus Wright, who plays Gaev, last appeared at the Young Vic in Mitchell's sold-out children's show The Cat in the Hat. He has also performed in her productions of Wastwater (Royal Court); The Seagull, Dream Play, Three Sisters and The Dybbuk at the National Theatre.
Gawn Grainger plays Firs. His extensive stage credits include 20 productions for the National Theatre including A Small Family Business, A Woman Killed With Kindness, ...some trace of her, Saturday Sunday Monday and The Seagull.
Paul Hilton returns to the Young Vic to play Peter Trofimov. He was last on stage at the theatre in David Lan's production of The Daughter in Law. His work also includes Rufus Norris' The Table and Katie Mitchell's Three Sisters, both at the National (NT).
The cast of The Cherry Orchard also includes: Natalie Klamar (Varya), Sarah Malin (Charlotte Ivanovna), Tom Mothersdale (Yasha), Sarah Ridgeway (Dunyasha), Hugh Skinner (Yepihodov) and Catrin Stewart (Anya).
