As the new Sam Wanamaker Playhouse prepares to open at the Globe, the nearby Rose Playhouse has announced a revival of Christopher Marlowe's Doctor Faustus to mark the 450th anniversary of Marlowe's birth.
Publicity material for the Rose, Bankside claims the play was first performed at the venue 420 years ago, though there is little evidence for this.
Martin Parr, who helmed Romeo and Juliet and Hamlet for the Rose last year, will direct Doctor Faustus.
According to press, "In this fast and furious production, we enter the mind of a man who, through narcissism, ambition and fatal curiosity, finds himself staring into the mouth of Hell, as The Rose, Bankside once again awakens the Devil and his legion of fallen angels."
Doctor Faustus runs from 4 to 28 February 2014 and runs for an interval-free 1hr 30 mins.
