Minute After Midday

Set three years after the Omagh bombing, Minute After Midday is a haunting memory play in which three characters recall their experiences of that tragic day and its aftermath. Although each character experiences the bombing from a different perspective, their stories all relate to what they lost and how it continues to impact their lives.

The delivery of the stories by the three actors is good, with some really touching moments. Simple lighting and an intimate space adds to the effect by not providing any distractions and preventing members of the audience from focusing on anything other than the harrowing tales of the individuals on stage.

The impact of the play is all the more poignant considering that it is based upon true events in our recent history. Everyone in the audience is likely to be able to recall seeing the aftermath of the Omagh bombing or other devastating acts of terrorism in the world unfold in an impersonal and detached manner on their TV screen at some point in their lifetime.

Minute After Midday gives a voice to victims of the Omagh bombing and suggests how individuals may have been affected that day. I wasn’t the only member of the audience who shed a tear.
