Private Dick

Establishing enthusiastic farce from the off, Los Angeles based Sound & Fury deliver their film noir detective spoof with impressive pace. Although not every gag was necessarily laugh out loud funny, this was an hour packed with plenty of giggles.

Getting suitable millage and innuendo from the now dated interpretation of the word dick to be slang for detective, the trio tackled the script in a slightly shambolic style, but the comedy in both the script and the evening’s ad-libs was evident.

The highlight of the show may well have been a supposed minister delivering a reading from a steamy romance novel instead of the bible, which engaged the audience to the stage that they were willing to participate and supply suitable sound effects.

A Punch and Judy routine acted out with sports trophies was also an entertaining addition to the frantic running around and comic cross dressing which filled much of the rest of the show. I found myself disappointed by the musical interludes of the evening, with the a cappella songs thin in both tune and rhythm.
