No this sadly isn’t ‘Dreams Of My
Father’ set to the greatest hits of Benny and Bjorn. Although ‘I Have
A Dream’, ‘The Winner Takes It All’ and ‘Money, Money, Money’ could
all be shoehorned into a musical adaptation of Barack Obama’s life.
In fact this is a musical parody depicting what may have happened
backstage in the 2008 Presidential elections. Obama is in a coma so
his hapless team replace him with an actor. Hilarity ensues. Well
occasionally.

Joe Biden is amusingly depicted as
wasted lothario and John McCain is secretly dead. The score is strong
but not packed with quite enough wit to distract from the large
variation in singing and dancing talents of the large cast. However enthusiasm is here in bucket loads and those on stage are clearly
enjoying themselves. Perhaps they’ll return in future years with a
tighter show.
