Casting announced for UK tour of Shrek

Casting has been announced for Shrek the Musical which embarks on a new UK tour, beginning at the Edinburgh Playhouse in December.

Nigel Harman returns to direct the production which will feature Steffan Harri (Les Miserables) in the title role alongside Laura Main (Call the Midwife) as Princess Fiona, Marcus Ayton (The Rat Pack Live) as Donkey and Samuel Holmes (The Wedding Singer, Mrs Henderson Presents) as Lord Farquaad.

They are joined by Adam Baker, Ethan Bradshaw, Michael Carolan, Joseph Dockree, William Hawksworth, Sarah-Louise Jones, Reece Kerridge, Thomas Lee Kidd, Amy Oxley, Jemma Revell, Lucinda Shaw, Sam Stones, Adam Taylor, Jennifer Tierney, Sophie Wallis, Francesca Williams, Laura Wilson and Kevin Yates.

Based on William Steig's children's book and the Oscar-winning DreamWorks film, Shrek the Musical has a book and lyrics by David Lindsay-Abaire and music by Jeanine Tesori. It premiered on Broadway in 2008 before transferring to the Theatre Royal Drury Lane in 2011.

Shrek the Musical runs at the Edinburgh Playhouse from 12 December to 7 January, and then tours to Manchester, Sunderland, Birmingham, Aberdeen, Northampton, Sheffield, Cardiff, Stoke, Blackpool, Woking, Liverpool, Norwich, Marlowe, Milton Keynes, Bristol, Llandudno, Nottingham, Belfast, Dublin, Plymouth, Southampton and Leeds.
