Krankies Join Barrowman In New Glasgow Panto

Scottish comedy duo Paul and Jeanette Krankie will join singer and actor John Barrowman in Aladdin at Glasgow’s SECC this Christmas. The show runs at the
Clyde Auditorium from Saturday 11 December 2010 to Sunday 9
January 2011.

The Krankies are appearing in the city for the first time in six years. In December 2004 while performing in Jack and the Beanstalk at the Pavilion Theatre, Jeanette was hospitalised with head injuries after falling 10ft off a pantomime beanstalk. The Krankies will play Chinese Policemen while John Barrowman takes
the title role of Aladdin (See News, 11 December 2009).

Michael Harrison, executive producer of Aladdin, said: “The
Krankies are synonymous with the great tradition of pantomime in Glasgow and we are
thrilled that they will be appearing at the SECC.”

He continued: “We have been working with Ian
and Janette over the past few seasons and they are widely-regarded as being
masters of the genre. Their huge talent, combined with John Barrowman’s
energy and showmanship together with our spectacular visual effects, is set to
make Aladdin an unmissable pantomime experience.”

Aladdin will compete with Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, the 2010/2011 offering from Glasgow’s long-running home of traditional Christmas entertainment, the King’s Theatre. The
two shows are being presented by rival producers in what is believed to
be the first time large-scale commercial pantomimes have gone head to
head in Scotland’s largest city.

Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs will be produced by First Family Entertainment which stages Christmas shows for the UK’s biggest theatre owner, the Ambassador Theatre Group. It will run at the King’s Theatre
from Friday 03 December 2010 to Sunday 09 January 2011. Casting is yet
to be announced but is expected to include high profile stars to
compete with the television exposure of Torchwood actor Barrowman.

Aladdin will be staged by Qdos Entertainment,
the world’s largest pantomime producer who also run the Allan
Stewart
-helmed annual show at Edinburgh’s King’s Theatre. It will play
at the Clyde Auditorium – part of the SECC – from 10 December 2010 to 9
January 2011.
