Nuffield Theatre Directors Honoured

The City of Southampton Awards recognise those who have made an exceptional contribution to the life of the city. Among the latest recipients are Patrick Sandford, artistic director of the Nuffield Theatre and his executive director colleague Kate Anderson.

Southampton’s incoming Mayor, Cllr Terry Matthews presented the awards. In response Sandford said: “I have lived and worked in Southampton for over 20 years. I love this city for its energy, diversity, history, its lack of pomposity, and for the really fresh creativity of the people who live here. Sometimes I think Southampton does not fully realise how bursting with talent it is. To be able to make theatre here is a privilege and a great joy”.

The Nuffield has come to be recognised as a major force in British theatre, and its focus as a centre of creativity in the city remains its highest priority. Its award-winning productions frequently tour nationally and internationally, while a diverse programme of touring companies are regular visitors. There are also opportunities for adults and children of all ages to participate in theatre activities that enrich, educate and simply entertain.
