Welcoming the Audience – the Queen’s Theatre, Hornchurch

We’re used to hearing about awards for the best actor or the most interesting new play, but one for the most welcoming theatre does sound a bit unusual. The Queen’s Theatre in Hornchurch, which has recently undergone an internal refurbishment, was nevertheless hailed as just that at the recent, newly created Off West End Theatre Awards (the Offies).

Bob Carlton’s resident company of actor-musicians cut to the chase… has built up a considerable reputation for its musicals. Last summer’s Camp Horror was declared the people’s favourite production and the autumn staging of A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum won the people’s favourite entertainment award. Carlton emphasises the importance of inclusivity in building and keeping an audience.
