Bury St Edmunds Appoints New Executive Director
A new executive director has been appointed for Bury St Edmunds Georgian Theatre Royal. He’s Simon Daykin, currently the chief executive of Oxford’s Pegasus Theatre and a lecturer on the arts management and marketing course at the University of Warwick. He was previously the head of marketing and development for the Belgrade Theatre in Coventry and before that the artistic director of the Quay Theatre in Sudbury.
Daykin takes up his new post at the beginning of April. Brian Stewart, the chairman of the theatre board, comments that: “Simon impressed the appointments panel with his vision for how to take the theatre forward in challenging times, and to bring some new ideas and innovations about the role and financial sustainability of this unique regional theatre. We all look forward to supporting him as he leads the senior management and staff to deliver the artistic, financial, organisational and customer services outcomes the Board will agree for
2011 and 2012”.
Discussing his appointment, Daykin said: “I’m excited and inspired to be joining the Theatre Royal and to be coming to Bury St Edmunds at this important time. The theatre has a powerful reputation built on quality and its relationships with local people, and this is something to nurture and develop. I’ve got an excellent team working with me, and feel very optimistic that we can meet the opportunities and challenges of the future head-on together”,
