Betrayal, sex and comedy returns to Merseyside
A new production of Drew Quayle’s The Salon is heading back to the North West but this time theatregoers will be treated to a much longer run than when it last appeared in the region.
Set in a Liverpool hairdressers, the show revolves around Tia, Carol and Sheila who all have their own problems to deal with. Facials, nails and aromatherapy take a back seat to karaoke, bed-hopping and scorned lovers as the girls muddle their way through the day.
If you throw in a plastic gangster, a hysterical drama queen and a whole lot of Vodka it all adds up to a fun night out.
The Salon was originally produced by St Helens Theatre Royal in June this year and Royal Court Liverpool are delighted to be able to give it a longer run.
Kevin Fearon, chief executive of Royal Court Liverpool, is looking forward to plenty of laughs. He said: “Drew’s script is packed with gags and it really makes for a great night out – the audiences are in for a real treat. When we saw the show in St Helens we immediately knew that we should bring it here for a long run. We are delighted with the cast which is a mix of old favourites and some new faces for the Court.”
The cast has changed somewhat from the original group of actors – adding a freshness to this latest production. Joining Roy Brandon (Brick Up The Mersey Tunnels), Lynne Fitzgerald (Bunty The Bouncer), and Danny O’Brien (Stags and Hens), who all appeared in the St Helens production, are: Suzanne Collins (Brick Up The Mersey Tunnels), Lynn Francis (Twopence to Cross the Mersey, 2007), James Spofforth (One Night In Istanbul) and Nicola Bolton (Sweet Charity, Oldham Coliseum).
Bob Eaton (Stags and Hens) will come straight from Our Day Out – The Musical to direct the show and Mark Walters is the designer.
Explaining the story behind the show, Drew Quayle adds: “In essence it’s an adult comedy about love and sex, betrayal and how we reconcile them. An audience can expect a great, fun night out, with lots of laughs and maybe the odd tear.”
