This Is Now dances into REX Studio

Award-winning contemporary dancers New Art Club perform This Is Now in The Studio at Manchester’s Royal Exchange Theatre from 23 – 25 September as part of a national tour.

If you remember the day when the first Now That’s What I Call Music LP was released back in 1983, 13 year old Tom Roden illegally tapes the first Now….LP onto a C60 cassette, fast forward 27 years and Tom has since teamed up with Pete Shenton, and after finding the cassette one day, the two of them listen to it and a brand new show is born – This Is Now.

As they deconstruct the first ever Now album, the show plunges audiences into a haze of 80s pop; complete with crimped hair, neon lycra and leg-warmers, while they wrestle with classic hits from Bonnie Tyler, Culture Club and Duran Duran.

New Art Club was formed in 2001 by Tom Roden and Pete Shenton through their shared passion for comedy and dance. Both trained contemporary dancers, their breakthrough show This Is Modern catapulted them into the national and international spotlight, and started a decade of characteristically clever and funny dance shows. The 2010 Edinburgh Fringe Festival saw them present Big Bag Of Boom – a greatest hit show that received huge critical acclaim as well as a FRINGE – Edinburgh Spotlight Best Comedy Award.
