Countdown to Playhouse Centenary
There are 100 days to go to mark the landmark birthday of the historic venue in Williamson Square.
On 11 November 1911, a small group established the Liverpool Repertory Company in what was then the Star Music Hall, before in 1917, the building was renamed the Liverpool Playhouse.
In 2011, a series of events around the theatre’s 100% Playhouse season will help mark the landmark ahead of the celebrations.
As a birthday present the theatre will also re-open the Playhouse Studio with the world première of The Swallowing Dark by Lizzie Nunnery.
There will be an online countdown to the big day, with interesting facts and anecdotes about the Playhouse’s history on the home page of the theatre’s website ahead of the publication of a new book chronicling the theatre’s history.
A special centenary tour of the Playhouse will be held on Saturday 10 September at 11.30am before Tartuffe, the opening production of the ‘100% Playhouse’ season.
