New Jersey Nights (Birmingham)

Frankie Valli and The Four Seasons have an incredible back catalogue of hits and New Jersey Nights lends those to create a show that is a fitting tribute to the band. Whilst there is no story, so not technically a musical, the simplicity of the show gives the feel of a tribute show. The narration provides a fresh take on the traditional tribute performance making this show a unique night.

All of the recognisbile hits are there: Big Girls Don’t Cry, Oh What A Night, Can’t Take My Eyes Off You, Sherry, Rag Doll and Beggin’ as well as some of Frankie’s solo hits My Eyes Adored You, Fallen Angel and Grease. The Four Seasons also put their vocals to other songs of the 60s including My Girl and Unchained Melody.

The set wouldn’t look out of place in a social club disco, it’s not so glamorous and borders tacky, one thing that does let the show down.

If you can get to London then see Jersey Boys, but if this show comes to your local theatre then give it a shot, it’s more than a tribute show, just not quite the spectacular homage to the Four Seasons that Jersey Boys does so well.

New Jersey Nights plays at the New Alexandra Theatre Birmingham until April 17, Oxford’s New Theatre 18-20 April, Stoke’s Regent Theatre 29 April – 1 May and the Wolverhampton Grand from 19 – 23 September.
