Jimmy Carr joins Lighthouse comedy line-up

Having already announced a fantastic autumn line-up of comedy, Lighthouse, Poole’s Centre for the Arts welcomes back Jimmy Carr on 3 August with his Rapier Wit show, guaranteed to get everyone’s laughing gear warmed-up over the summer.

A heady mix of artistic integrity, loyalty and avarice has put Jimmy Carr back on the road, with his Rapier Wit show. A ‘rapier’ is the long sword of a gentleman. ‘Rapier wit’ is defined as clever, quick, intelligent humour.

Carr is the latest name to join Lighthouse, Poole’s Centre for the Arts’ superb autumn comedy season that includes Dara O Briain, Rhod Gilbert, Sean Lock and two more big names in stand-up Shappi Khorsandi and Kevin Bridges.

Described by The Guardian as ‘Britain’s best young female comic by any yardstick’, Shappi Khorsandi‘s 2006 show Asylum Speaker was an Edinburgh Festival sell-out before enjoying an extended run at The Soho Theatre in London. In 2007 she won Best Breakthrough Act at the Chortle Awards before taking her one women show Carry on Shappi to the 2008 Edinburgh Festival and back to London’s Soho Theatre.

Shappi has since appeared on BBC’s Have I Got News for You, on Lenny’s Britain and Never Mind the Full Stops. She’s a regular contributor to BBC Radio 4 programmes such as Quote… Unquote, The Now Show, Just a Minute and From Tehran with Laughter. Shappi has also taken part in BBC4’s The Big Read.

Kevin Bridges, Scotland’s ‘young comedy prodigy’ (The Guardian), enjoyed an Edinburgh Fringe Festival sell out run in 2009 and has an Edinburgh Comedy Award nomination for Best Newcomer under his belt, plus star appearances on BBC’s Michael McIntyre’s Comedy Roadshow, Live at the Apollo, Mock The Week, Have I Got News For You, and 8 Out Of 10 Cats, and Comedy Gala at the 02 Arena, for Channel 4.

Now aged just 23, Kevin’s natural gift for comedy make him a regular at major comedy clubs up and down the country including The Comedy Store and the Glee Club. His critically acclaimed debut solo show at the Glasgow International Comedy Festival has led him to become a festival favourite selling out consecutive shows for the past three years.
