Opening: Mead in Wicked, Sinner, Stars & Peter

Amongst the major London openings - in the West End and further afield - this week are:

OPENING TONIGHT, Monday 10 May 2010, Lee Mead returns to the musical stage for the first time since his Joseph & the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat days, taking over as Fiyero in Wicked at the Apollo Victoria (See News, 28 Jan 2010).

ALSO TONIGHT, Janie Dee and Aden Gillett star in Tim Luscombe’s revival of Nancy Mitford’s 1950s comedy The Little Hut at the Rose Theatre, Kingston as part of a national tour (See News, 6 Apr 2010).

ALSO TONIGHT, following its West End success (including a Whatsonstage.com Award), Derren Brown - Enigma visits New Wimbledon Theatre as part of a national tour.

OPENING TUESDAY, 11 May 2010 (previews from 4 May), Drew Pautz’s provocative play Love the Sinner, about an international group of church leaders who converge in an African hotel to contend the need for Christian doctrine to change with the times, premieres at the National’s Cottesloe. Directed by Matthew Dunster, it continues in rep until 10 July.

OPENING WEDNESDAY, 12 May 2010 (previews from 7 May), A Thousand Stars Explode in the Sky, a new play co-written by David Eldridge, Robert Holman and Simon Stephens, premieres at the Lyric Hammersmith, helmed by artistic director Sean Holmes. The cast includes Ann Mitchell and Tanya Moodie, who stepped in last month following the withdrawal of Jemma Redgrave (See News, 14 April 2010).

OPENING THURSDAY, 13 May 2010 (previews from 12 May), the National Theatre of Scotland's production of Peter Pan, re-imagined in Victorian Edinburgh by playwright David Greig, transfers to the Barbican. Directed by John Tiffany (Black Watch), it continues to 29 May as part of a national tour.

ALSO ON THURSDAY (previews from 11 May), JT Rogers' award-winning play Madagascar, about three people who travel to Rome to uncover the truth behind a young man's disappearance, opens at Theatre503, where it continues to 5 June 2010.
