Nick Lloyd Webber Follows in Father’s Footsteps

Like father, like son. Nick Lloyd Webber, the 30-year-old son of Andrew Lloyd Webber by his first wife Sarah Hugill, is venturing increasingly into his father’s realm. Already a songwriter, film and TV composer and record producer, more recently, Nick has also been writing scores for the Oxford Shakespeare Company, which performs the bard’s works in historic open-air venues in Oxford, London and elsewhere.

Tonight (5 May 2010), in a benefit at west London’s Gate Theatre where guests will include Lloyd Webber senior, Nick unveils his third OSC score, for the forthcoming production of The Tempest.

The Tempest opens first at Gray’s Inn in London, running from 9 to 18 June 2010, prior to the company’s annual summer residence at the Walled Garden at Wadham College, Oxford, from 4 to 24 July and 4 to 20 August 2010. Directed by former Gate artistic director and Wadham alumnus Mick Gordon, with musical direction by Nick, the production marks the 400th anniversary of both Shakespeare’s play and the college.

The Tempest will also visit outdoor spaces at Hampton Court, Greenwich, Charlbury and Shakespeare House in Aylesbury, and in Oxford in August, will run in rep with the company’s new production of Noel Coward’s Private Lives.
